Anna Schaan

April 27, 1931-May 9, 2025

Minot

Anna Marie Schaan, 94, Minot, passed away on Friday, May 9, 2025 at a Minot hospital.

Anna Marie Feist was born on April 27, 1931, on the family farm in Karlsruhe, ND, to Benedict and Dorothea (Streifel) Feist. She was raised and educated in Karlsruhe.

Ann married Joseph Schaan on May 9, 1949 at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Karlsruhe. They lived and farmed in the Max area from 1949 to 1952, then moved to Minot.

Joe and Ann had two children, Phyllis and Jerome. Ann was a member of Little Flower Catholic Church for many years. She enjoyed her time as a Girl Scout leader for her daughter, Phyllis and a Boy Scout leader for her son, Jerome.

Ann worked at Trinity Hospital in Minot for 25 years before retiring. At the time of her death, she was a long-time member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church where she had volunteered frequently.

Ann enjoyed a simple kind of life. She was very independent and enjoyed an active lifestyle. Her hobbies included afternoon strolls downtown, shopping at the mall, playing cards with her friends, and even an occasional casino trip to meet up with friends and have a good time.

When Ann’s daughter, Phyllis, passed away at a young age, Ann helped raise her twin granddaughters. She was a devoted grandmother and extremely close to the twins.

Her true joy came when she was able to babysit her first great-grandson, Cole. She often shared that her time caring for him was one of her greatest treasures.

Ann also enjoyed taking trips to Texas to visit her son, Jay, and his wife Nancy as well as frequent trips to Minnesota to visit her twin granddaughters and their families.

She especially loved spending time with her four great-grandchildren. Ann was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend who will be deeply missed.

Ann is survived by her loving family: son, Jerome (Nancy) Schaan; grandchildren, DeAnn (Rob) Mayer and Kristi (Rafe) Garofalo; great-grandchildren, Cole, Kennedy and Jacob Mayer and Anna Garofalo; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ann was preceded in death by her daughter, Phyllis; parents, Ben and Dorothea; husband, Joseph Schaan; sisters, Dorothy Hager, Christine Kupser, Lena Heit, Barbara Bruner, Katherine Fahy, Caroline Goebel; and her brothers, Tony, Frank, Paul and Benedict Feist.
