Allen Dale Lorenz, 71, Voltaire, ND, passed away Thursday, April 24, 2025, in his home surrounded by family.

Allen was born on Oct. 8, 1953, in Eugene, Oregon. The son of Marvin and Vivian (Schuhrke) Lorenz. He was raised and educated in Velva, graduating from Velva High School in 1971.

Allen started working as a commercial insulator at the age of 16. He worked for Gagnon Inc for the majority of his life. These jobs took him to numerous power plants around North Dakota and the upper Midwest.

Allen became the superintendent of most jobs because of his many years of experience and hard work. Allen belonged to the International Union Local 133 of Heat, Frost and Asbestos workers. His longest employment was with the Mandan Refinery.

He married Coral Batke on June 15, 1974 and was blessed with 3 boys, Mikel, Travis, and Nathan.

Allen enjoyed spending time outdoors with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He especially loved fishing and hunting. He couldn’t wait to be out on the water catching walleye so he could have a big family fish fry.

He enjoyed gardening and canning with Coral. He loved sitting around a campfire with his family and friends, making popcorn over the flames.

Allen had a unique sense of humor with many witty comments. He was always up to some kind of shenanigans, many involving duct tape.

His loving family includes his loving wife of 50 years, Coral; Children, Mikel Lorenz, Moorhead, MN, and Travis Lorenz, Arvada, CO; Grandchildren, Shailey (DJ) Stephan, Reganne, Brilynn, Isaac, and Samantha; Great-granddaughter, Maliyah; Brothers, Glenn, Mark, and Marvin Lorenz; Sisters, Pamela Lorenz and Cindy (Lynn) Shattuck; several nieces and nephews, his favorite being Sherpa, Marvin Samuel Lorenz, as well as many great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Vivian; son, Nathan; grandson, Zandr; great-granddaughter, Malayah.

Graveside Service: Monday, May 5, 2025 at 1 p.m. at the Velva Community Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the American Cancer Society.
