Thomas R. Petz

Sept 18, 1957-April 4, 2025

Ryder

Thomas R. Petz, 67, of Ryder, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, April 4, 2025, at Garrison Memorial Hospital. Thomas Richard Petz was born on September 18, 1957, to Lawrence and LaVerne (Jensen) Petz. Affectionately known as “Son #2,” he attended grade school in Ryder and North Shore High School in Makoti. He was a voracious reader and gained knowledge in various trades.

After high school, he worked for Byron Larson Construction and several area farmers. Tommy spent 25 years working in the oil fields between Wyoming and North Dakota as a driller. He later became a farmer when he and his brothers continued their father’s farming operation on his grandparents’ homestead, Jacob and Josephine Petz. Tommy served as the manager of the farm and also worked for Mark Roen Harvesting.

A true outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing. He was a member of the Douglas Sportsman’s Club and St. Elizabeth Catholic Church.

Tommy was a loyal and loving son, brother, uncle, and friend. He cherished the time spent with his loved ones. Blessed be his memory among us.

Tommy is survived by his brothers, John Petz (Lynn) and Peter Petz; sisters, Stephanie Hagen (Richard), Monica Eriksmoen, Teresa Petz, Sue Ellen Feist, Paulette Lozensky (Craig); sister-in-law, Julie Petz; brother-in-law, Marvin Hagen; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; sister, Maureen Hagen; and brother, Timothy Petz.
