Janet Grasser
Feb. 27 1928-March 10, 2025
Devils Lake
Janet Ann Grasser, 97, passed away on March 10, 2025 listening to her Irish Pub music and with her family near her.
She was born on February 22, 1928 to Edmund and Mary (nee Taylor) Seward in Devils Lake, ND where she lived with her three sisters. When Janet was two her father passed away. This led to her spending her summers in Hamden, ND with her maternal grandparents. She spent many happy hours with her grandfather at his blacksmith shop.
On November 15, 1949 she married Orville Grasser and began her married life on a farm near Brinsmead, ND. They sold the farm in 1958 and moved to Devils Lake, Grand Forks and eventually to Minot. At this time Janet was a devoted mother to her eight children while Orville was hauling diesel.
On Christmas Day 1976 she moved to Mesa, AZ with her husband and youngest four children. She worked at the Sears Catalog department at Fiesta Mall until she retired. She was the first person in her family to use a computer.
Janet was known for her gracious hospitality, fresh baked bread, teaching and singing with all the little ones, her knack for card games, her garden and above all her fierce love of her family. She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother. Not a bad mother-in-law either.
Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Orville, two children, Kennes and Doug and two grandchildren, Ron Staebell and Dakota Grasser.
She is survived by her daughters, Margo, Colleen and Mary, her sons, Lorne, Charles and Robin, 24 grandchildren, 70 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren (with one more on the way).
Visitation will be on Thursday March 27, 2025 from 4-6 p.m. at Meldrum Mortuary in Mesa. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday March 28th at 10 a.m. at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Mesa.
