Theresa Elaine Ankenbauer, 96, Minot, ND, formerly of Kenmare, passed away Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at a Minot care facility.

Theresa Elaine Wirtz was born on a cold winter day March 4, 1928, on the family farm 3 ½ miles east of Kenmare, ND to John and Mary (Bauer) Wirtz. She was raised and educated in Kenmare.

Theresa once worked at the Kenmare Deaconess Hospital as a Nurses Aid.

Theresa married Foster Earl Ankenbauer on April 13, 1946 in Plentywood, MT. Three days later Foster was sent off for Army basic training at Ft. Robinson, AR after training he spent 19 months in Japan. When Foster returned, they had purchased their home at 404 3rd Ave NE, in Kenmare. Theresa remained in her home for 73 years until moving to a Minot Assisted Living Facility in 2020.

Theresa was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Kenmare, and served as a Trustee on the board and is also a member of the Altar Society.

Her loving family includes: children, Bruce (Deanna) Ankenbauer, Kenmare, Greg (Lea) Ankenbauer, Kenmare, Norine (Bruce) Johnson, Mohall, Tina (Richard) Wobbema, Velva, Kayla (Duane) Sandberg, Kenmare, Annette (Frank) Smith, Bismarck, and Todd (Charlene) Ankenbauer, Kenmare; 24 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Marlys Wirtz, Dorothy Ankenbauer, Elizabeth “Beth” Jones, and Shirley Sargeant; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Foster; granddaughter-in-law, Jodi Johnson; great-grandchildren, Charlie Smith, Liam Haugen, and Foster Richard Ankenbauer; brothers and sisters, Clarence, Agnes, Bernard, Sr. Louise, Clarence M., Clara, Lillian, Lawrence, Bernice, Lucille, Paul, and John.

Visitation: Monday, October 7, 2024, from 6 until 7 p.m., at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Kenmare, ND. Vigil Prayer Service: Monday, October 7, 2024, at 7 p.m., at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Kenmare.

Mass of Christian Burial: Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Kenmare. Interment: St. Agnes Catholic Cemetery, Kenmare, ND.
