Elliot Braaflat
Oct. 24, 1976 – Oct. 1, 2024
Plaza
Elliot DuWayne Braaflat was born on October 24, 1976, in Minot to Curt and Tammy (Tvedt) Braaflat. Elliot was raised on the family farm and attended school in Plaza. He was an honor student and enjoyed playing football, basketball, and baseball. But his heart was always in farming and ranching; even from a young age, he would try to get out of homework to handle his farm chores.
After graduating from high school in 1995, he continued his education and received certification in HVAC. He worked at Ron’s Heating & Cooling in Minot for almost ten years, all the while maintaining his cows at the ranch. He was a member of the Sheetmetal Workers Union for several years.
In 2001, Elliot met Tammie Oss. They were united in marriage on December 27, 2002, in Minot. They made their home on the farm northeast of Plaza and began their beautiful family. They were blessed with four daughters. He loved his family and was protective of his girls. He encouraged Tammie to pursue her education and career. He was the best Dad and sometimes the best “mom,” which he loved. He was thrilled when the girls were old enough to help on the farm.
Elliot was a true family man. He was a proud oldest brother and oldest grandchild and was very close to his siblings and cousins. The family remembers how he loved to hold a baby and “snuff their roots.” He was funny and often gave nicknames to those close to him; he answered to the names Scooby and later Denny.
Being a farmer and rancher was his life. He enjoyed being outdoors and outdoor activities like hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling. He could fix almost anything, often fabricating or welding what he needed. He was a kind and hardworking man who will be missed by his family and neighbors. On Tuesday, October 1, 2024, Elliot Braaflat, at the age of 47, passed away unexpectedly at his home. Blessed be his memory among us.
Elliot is survived by his wife, Tammie Braaflat; parents, Curt and Tammy Braaflat; daughters, Hannah, Claire, Piper, and Elsie; brother, Eric (Traci) Braaflat; sister, Lacy (Mike) Braaflat; nieces and nephews, McKenna, Madilyn, Mandi Jo, Oscar, Oliver, and Erica, Frankie and Curt; aunts and uncles, Craig & Joy Braaflat, Carter Braaflat, Carmel Wieland, Carmen & Eddie Wheeling, and Tracy Guitierrez; and many cousins and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his stillborn son, Eli Braaflat; aunt Cindy Braaflat; uncle, Lee Wieland; and his grandparents.
