Amy Darlene Hendershot, 79, Mohall, formerly of Sherwood, daughter of Jack and Alvina Sommers, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, lost her battle with cancer and passed away at the Trinity Kenmare Community Hospital on Monday, Oct. 14, 2024. She passed away peacefully with her husband, Donnie, by her side.
Amy was born May 10, 1945, in Minot, to Jack and Alvina (Shong) Sommers. She graduated from Tolley High School in 1963. She briefly attended the Minot Business College after high school.
Amy married Donald Hendershot on Oct. 16, 1964, marking their 60-year anniversary. She worked a variety of jobs including Mohall and Kenmare hospitals, the Good Samaritan Society, and many years of driving school buses while working on the family farm. She was also involved in many activities at the Tolley and Sherwood schools, churches and community. She served many years with the township of Tolley.
Amy enjoyed camping, fishing, canning, gardening, decorating cakes, crafts, and loved pontoon rides. Amy will be remembered for her hard work ethic, community involvement, a hug and a smile, and always willing to drop anything to help her family.
Family: She was survived by her husband, Donald Hendershot, Mohall; daughters, Brenda (Tony) Bernhardt, Rugby, Vicky (Loren) Bowers, Williston; son, Steve Hendershot, Mohall; grandchildren, Laci (Cain) Parker, Lexi (Brock) Steeves, Tanner Bernhardt, Logan (Kaisa) Bowers, Linsy Bowers and Levi Hendershot; great-grandchildren, Brysen Hastings, Cain Liam Parker, Eli Bowers, Laini Parker, Blaze Steeves and Emmett Bowers.
Amy was preceded in death by: her parents, Jack Sommers and Alvina (Shong) Keith; grandparents, Henry and Valena Shong; sister, Judy (Larry) Hamel; niece, Nicky Pollary; and granddaughter, Mariya Bernhardt.
Funeral: 10 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024, at Zion Lutheran Church, Mohall. Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, rural Minot. Sharing of Memories Service: 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2024, at the church.
