Minot
Virgil A. Frink, born July 31, 1951, in Minot, ND, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2024, at Sanford Hospital in Bismarck, surrounded by his loving family after a brief battle with cancer. The son of DeLoise and Dale Frink of Parshall, Virgil was baptized into the First Lutheran Church of Parshall, where his faith and connection to his community began. He was a dedicated Legion member for 45 years. He proudly served his country in the National Guard in 1969, completing his basic training at Fort Polk, Louisiana, and medic training at Sam Houston, Texas. When his father’s health required him to return to the family farm, Virgil was honorably discharged to work alongside his brother Rod.
Virgil married the love of his life, Janice, on October 14, 1972. Together, they built a beautiful life centered around their family and farm. He was a farmer and rancher by trade, but his true joy came from the love he shared with his family. Virgil and Janice raised three children–Corey, Carissa, and Curtis–instilling the values of hard work, kindness, and humor in them. His love for his family grew even deeper as he became a grandfather, cherishing his grandchildren and celebrating their milestones. Virgil cherished making memories with his family, whether attending his grandchildren’s activities in Bismarck, sharing laughter and stories at family gatherings, or enjoying time together on their travels. One of Virgil’s favorite traditions was the family’s annual trip to Minnesota, where they would visit friends and relatives, maybe catch a Twins game, and always make time for horse racing and antiquing. His most recent family trip to Hawaii, celebrating 50 years of marriage with Janice, will forever remain a cherished memory.
Virgil’s sense of humor was legendary, with his quick wit and playful teasing bringing smiles and laughter to everyone who knew him. His lighthearted pranks and jokes always reminded those around him of the joy in life. He loved watching the Minnesota Vikings and the Twins, cheering them on no matter the season. Deer hunting was one of his favorite pastimes, not only because of the sport but because it allowed him to teach and share special moments with his sons and grandsons.
Virgil is survived by his beloved wife Janice; his children Corey (Jessica), Carissa (Justin), and Curtis (Misti); his grandchildren Devan, Trenten, Emilyn, Dylan (Kaitlyn), Charles; and great-grandson Bennet. He is also survived by his brothers Dale Larry (Judy) and Rod; his sisters Clareen (Terry) and Illa; and an uncle, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Virgil was deeply loved by his family and friends, and his presence will be forever missed.
In every role–as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend–Virgil left a lasting impact, marked by his deep love, his joy for life, and his unwavering dedication to those he held dear. His family will continue to carry forward his legacy of kindness, humor, and love.
