George Ramey, 77, Minot passed away Saturday, September 14, 2024, in his residence.

George William Ramey was born June 6, 1947, the son of James and Eleanor (Richards) Ramey, in Minot, ND. He was raised and educated in Minot, attending first grade at Washington Elementary School, second grade at Sunnyside Elementary School, and finishing his schooling at Model School. While attending high school he worked in the summers as a carpenter helper, later becoming a carpenter. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Army Reserves in 1968.

He received a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Minot State University. During his quest for a college degree, he worked in construction, truck driving, and as an equipment operator. He spent 1 year as a GMC trucking salesman before spending 22 years in Federal Civil Service for the Army Reserves where he retired in 2000 as a Chief Warrant Officer.

He married Karen Hoffert on June 26, 1971. They made their home in Minot and were blessed with two wonderful daughters, Heather and Crystal. In 1995, George and Karen purchased the Capri Bar, where he worked and managed the bar until he retired in 2005.

After retiring he spent his summers at the lake home on Lake Sakakawea. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. His joy after retirement was teaching his grandkids how to fish, hunt, water ski, and just enjoying the outdoors. He rarely missed one of the sporting events and enjoyed following professional sports with them.

His loving family includes: wife of 53 years, Karen; children, Heather (Bob) Mathews, Crystal (Marqui) Labatore; grandchildren, Ethan Mathews, Gavin Mathews, Eli Labatore, Zoe Labatore; sisters, Kathleen Neufeld, Beverly Locken; brother, James Ramey; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Denny Ramey and Gary Ramey.

A private family service will take place.
