Clayton S. Patterson, 87, Minot, ND, passed away, Saturday, August 24, 2024, at his home.
Clayton Strate Patterson was born on April 24, 1937, at the family homestead farm, in Ivanhoe Township, Renville County, near Donnybrook, ND, to Raymond and Olive (Strate) Patterson. He was the third of his five siblings, and he grew up on the family farm.
Clayton completed eight years of grade school at an Ivanhoe township country school, and graduated from Donnybrook High School in 1954. He furthered his education by attending Wahpeton School of Science, and completed a two year program in auto mechanics and related subjects.
Early in 1957, he enrolled in a farm short course at North Dakota State University (NDAC). In mid-1957, he enlisted in and completed a 6 year program with the US Army Reserve 311th General Field Hospital. He began farming at a young age with his father and Clayton retired from farming in 2004. He also kept very busy running his North Side Farm Shop business, doing repair work for the farm, and also for friends and neighbors.
He married his wife, Bonnie Haugen, in 1970, and they made their home on the farm and in Minot. Bonnie passed away in April, 2013.
Clayton is survived by his sister, Marlene Kay Berry, Austin area, Texas, and Jill (Gary) McKenney, Eugene, Oregon; along with a few cousins and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Shirley; brother, Floyd; and brother-in-law, Pete Berry.
Honoring Clayton’s wishes, there will be no traditional service, and cremation has taken place. Burial will take place at a later date, at Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot. A celebration of Clayton’s Life will be planned, for the spring/summer of 2025. The family asks that you write down your memories and stories to share at Clayton’s celebration of Life. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the donor’s choice.
