Jerry Merle Fosness, the son of Leonard and Ruth (Ness) Fosness was born on June 2, 1948, in Rugby, North Dakota. He died at the age of 76 years on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Trinity Hospital in Minot, North Dakota.

Jerry was raised in the home of his parents in the Barton/Willow City area. He began school in Barton before going to Willow City, where he graduated from high school. Continuing his education, he enrolled in the Wahpeton Mechanic program before being drafted into the U.S. Army on February 25, 1970. While in the military, he served during the Vietnam War stationed in Germany. After he was honorably discharged on March 25, 1971, he returned to the Barton/Willow City area to farm and raise cattle. He was married and blessed with 3 children, Kimberly, Shane and Ritchie. Along with farming and raising cattle, he also worked in the Oil Field and after retiring from that, he moved to Minot. He has been in Minot for over 20 years, where he worked various part-time jobs. He spent most of his time having coffee, breakfast and visiting at his favorite place, Schatz Crossroads. He enjoyed going to auction sales, threshing shows, loved his horse teams and enjoyed collecting guns and toy tractors. Most will remember him as a social guy who loved to visit, who will be missed by his family and friends.

Jerry is survived by his children, Kimberly (Perry) Johnson, Shane (Melinda Hahn) Fosness and Ritchie Fosness; grandchildren, Dillon Nelson (Mariah Evans) and Andrew Johnson; great grandchildren, Ada; sisters, LouAnn Getzlaff and Julie Krout; sister-in-law, Audrey Fosness; nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Dean Fosness and his parents.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 31, 2024, at Marker Lutheran Cemetery, northwest of Rugby, with full military honors. Lunch and fellowship to follow at the Willow City Community Hall.

Visitation will be on Friday, August 30, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service and sharing of memories beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Rugby.
