Ronald Gene Schepp, a twin, was born on August 11, 1944, in Rugby, ND to Albert and Emma Schepp. In his early years he was raised on the family farm in Bantry, ND. The family moved to Maxbass where Ron started school, and where he graduated from in 1962. He started college at Bottineau College of Forestry, leaving school after the first quarter to return to the farm to help with the farming, after his father suffered a broken leg. Ron met and married Glenda Demars on July 23, 1966. Together they made their home in Minot, ND, later their home flooded in the flood of 1969. Ron returned back to college at Minot State, where he graduated in June of 1967 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Ron and Glenda moved to Grand Forks in 1971 where he worked as a Prudential Inc. agent and manager. They moved to Rugby for a short time, Ron managed a trailer court and property, while continuing to be a Prudential Agent. Their family moved to Westhope in 1974, where Ron started at People State Agency. Ron was active in the community as a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, and served on the Church Council. He was on the Park Board, School Board, Airport Board, an EMT, and on the SRT Board until he moved. In 1995, Glenda passed away, with their marriage they were blessed with five children. Ron continued to live and work in Westhope following Glenda’s passing.
On July 31, 1999, Ron married JoAnn (Clark) Enget, they continued to live in Westhope. With Ron’s love of fishing in 2013, he purchased their retirement home on Lake Audubon. Ron continued to work at the agency, making trips back and forth to work until he retired from Peoples State in 2017, after 43 years of service.
Ron loved the lake life, Ron and JoAnn took advantage of the lake spending hours fishing by boat and ice fishing in the winter. He loved it when the kids and grandkids came and fished with him, it was always a competition for the first fish, biggest fish, and most fish. He was known to knock a few off the hook when helping to net. A brother fishing trip every summer starting in 1982. He also enjoyed trips with SRT. Trips with his twin to Mexico, Hawaii, Alaska- always said he could move there.
Ron loved to plant a garden, boasting about his prize onions and Minnesota Midget Cantaloupe. He enjoyed giving away his produce to his neighbors.
He had a zest for life. Ron loved to visit and could be found talking on the phone, or driving his side-by-side around the community stopping to talk to whoever was around or checking out the fishing report. Even after he could no longer take his own boat and fish house out, his neighbors always saw that he got out to fish. After his cancer diagnosis in 2022, he kept a positive attitude and believed he could bear it. His strong faith in God kept him fighting.
