Neil Newport, 81, Minot, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 4, 2024 at his home.

Neil was born on November 23, 1942, in Minot to Lyman and Sigrid (Thoreson) Newport. He was raised and educated in Minot, graduating from Minot High School. Neil also attended Minot Business College.

On December 4, 1962, Neil was united in marriage with Rita Jo Oldham. Neil lived in Minot where he was self-employed installing carpet for many years.

Neil enjoyed watching TV, taking trips, and shopping. Most of all, though, he loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren, whom he loved to tease.

Neil is survived by his wife, Rita Jo Newport; children, Brenda (Greg) Reed, Cheryl Richter, and Shane L.R. (Brandi) Newport, all of Minot; grandchildren, Amanda, Koral Rose, Jordyn, Reese Corbin, Riley James, Tenlee Morgen, and Nylah Jolynn; siblings, LeVere Draper and Nicki Newport, both of Minot; and numerous other extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lyman and Sigrid Newport; brother, Levi (Shirley) Newport; and brother-in-law, Neil Draper.

Visitation: Tuesday, July 9, 2024, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Funeral: Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Thompson Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.
