Mavis L. Bolte—-86, Devils Lake, ND, formerly of Minot, passed away on Sunday, June 30, 2024 in her daughter’s home in Devils Lake, ND.

Mavis Lorraine Kiser was born on July 15, 1937 in Valley City, ND to John Wesley and Myrtle (Monson) Kiser. She was raised on the family farm with her two brothers and attended school in Fingal, ND, graduating from Fingal High School in 1956. She then attended Dakota Business College in Fargo, ND, graduating in 1958. She worked in the City Auditor’s office in Valley City and for the City of Fargo Police Department before moving to Minot with her family in 1966. She was at one time married to Edward Bolte.

Mavis worked in the Minot office at Bridgeman Creamery from 1967 until 1976 and then started working in the Activity Department at Americana Healthcare Center (now Minot Rehab) from 1976 until 1993. She also served as Activity Director for a period of time. She also worked in the Activity Department at Trinity Homes from 1993 until her retirement in 2004. After retirement, Mavis was also a caregiver in an Adult Foster Home and did volunteer work for the elderly and her church.

Mavis was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a longtime member of Augustana Lutheran Church until the 2011 flood that destroyed the church, and then became a member of Bread of Life Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Merry Circle.

While at Augustana church, she belonged to Deborah and Naomi Circles, WELCA, served on the Altar Guild, and the church council. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Mavis had a compassion and love for the elderly since she was a young child and considered the residents she cared for and the members of her church her extended family. Her interests included music, movies, reading, jigsaw puzzles, baking, dancing, watching high school basketball, and was a fan of NDSU Bison football. Her family and friends were her greatest gifts and was happiest when she was with her grandchildren who were the joy of her life.

She is survived by her daughter, Jodi (Loren) Nelson, Devils Lake, ND; grandchildren, Michael Nelson, Fargo, ND, Eric (Shayna) Nelson, Horace, ND, Jaim’ee Bolte, Minneapolis, MN, Azriel (Sofia) Kistner; great-granddaughter, Astrid, West Virginia; brothers, Keith (Sandra) Kiser, Fargo, ND; sister-in-law, Gwen Kiser, Sun City, AZ; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jeanne, brother Charles, nephew Cordell, her parents and grandparents.

In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials are preferred to the Bread of Life Lutheran Church building fund.

Visitation: There will be no reviewal as cremation has taken place, however per Mavis’ request, there will be a gathering of family and friends on Monday, July 8, 2024 from 2 until 4 pm at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot

Graveside service: Thursday, July 11, 2024 at 1:30 pm at the Hillside Cemetery, Fingal, ND officiated by Rev. John Rieth.
