Derold Keith Simonson was born August 9, 1928 to Arthor and Mina (Hanson) Simonson in Fillmore, ND, where he grew up on the family farm. After school, he worked various jobs until taking over the farming operations in 1961. Derold was united in marriage to Iris Goetz on April 27, 1969 in Knox, ND. The couple lived on the farm where they milked cows, raised beef cattle and small grains.

Besides work, Derold’s favorite thing to do was have coffee with the neighbors. He loved the outdoors and in the fall, you would find him hunting geese and cranes. In 1997 Derold retired from farming but continued to work for various farmers in the area. In 2014, he moved to Minot, where he loved to spend time with his grandchildren.

Derold is survived by his wife of 55 years, Iris; son, Chad (Nicole) Simonson of Minot, ND; grandchildren, Matthew Simonson and Alexis Simonson; brother, Glen (Irene) Simonson; sisters-in-law, Betty Simonson and Elaine Simonson; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
