Judith Bachmeier

March 22, 1953-June 12, 2024

Minot

Judith Bachmeier, 71, of Minot, formerly of Velva, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at Souris Valley Care Center, Velva.

Judi was born on March 22, 1953 to Ferdinand and Pauline (Scheuffle) in Minot, ND. Her growing up years were spent in Sawyer and Velva where she attended Velva High School.

Judi married Charles Hystad in 1971. They were married for 17 years and from this union they had two daughters, Tammi and Sara.

In 1998, Judi and Melvin Bachmeier married, and they enjoyed 26 years together. The home she and Melvin created was one of sanctuary and comfort. She had a passion for exploring vintage stores and junk markets, finding the perfect treasures to infuse their home with character and charm. Holidays were magical in her presence, and she made every celebration memorable. Gift giving was her love language and she delighted in bringing joy to others.

Judi faced cancer five times with unwavering bravery, inspiring all that knew her with strength and resilience. She has left a legacy of courage and perseverance for her four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren that she adored. She showered them with love and affection at every opportunity.

Judi took great pleasure in witnessing her grandchildren’s growth and was actively involved in their lives. She retired from Jim Hill Middle School in 2018 which freed up her schedule to spend more time doing what she loved. Many days were spent relaxing in the hammock, with a grandchild by her side, sharing stories and laughter, tending to her flowers and garden, and taking long car rides with a stop for her favorite maple nut ice cream. A perfect ending to the day.

Her presence will be missed, but her love and spirit will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her. May she rest in peace knowing she was deeply loved and cherished.

Her loving family includes: husband, Melvin, Minot; daughters Tammi (Matt) Schatz of Velva and Sara (Mark) Merck of Hillsboro; granddaughters Addyson and Avery Merck of Hillsboro and Samantha (Bryan) Olsen and their children Aaralyn, Abram, and Ophelia of Velva and Mallory (Alex) Schatz-Howell and their children Trace and Miller of Minot; brothers Ronald (Patricia) Heizelman of Denver, CO and Garry Heizelman of Minot along with many beloved nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Judi was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Ardis Aasen and Janice Knippelberg and brother Orville Heizelman.
