Gordon Almquist, 86, Incline Village, Nevada, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at Kindred hospital in San Leandro, California.
Gordon was born September 3, 1937, the son of Jack and Hilda (Einarson) Almquist. He was raised on a farm near Upham and graduated from Upham High School in 1955. He went to the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks and graduated in the spring of 1960. From there he went to USAF pilot training. He served in the USAF from 1960 to 1966. He was a pilot/flight engineer for PanAm Airlines from 1966 to 1991. PanAm ceased operations in 1991 so he was unemployed for a time prior to flying for United Air Lines. He was with them until six weeks after, “the day of infamy” 9/11.
Gordon married Fran Leguellow on May 20, 1977. They lived in Pennsylvania and in Florida. Fran died in 2014. Shortly after her death he retired to Incline Village, Nevada.
He is survived by his sisters, Karen (Hjalmer) Carlson, Garrison, ND, and Mary Gossett, Manistee, MI; sister-in-law, Clayann Almquist, Fargo, ND; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; and brother, Ron.
Memorial Service: Friday, June 21, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
Interment: Ash Grove Cemetery, rural Upham, ND.
Visitation: Thursday from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to a charity of the donor’s choice.
