Dr. Steven Bruce Schoneberg died at his home in Rugby on Saturday afternoon, May 18, 2024.

Steve was born on June 30, 1953 in Laramie, Wyoming to John Fillmore Schoneberg and Betty Lou Acord. He grew up in Casper, Wyoming and Billings, Montana. He graduated from high school in Billings and later attended the University of Montana in Missoula. Steve furthered his education with a Doctor of Medicine Degree from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque in 1983 and com-pleted his family practice residency in 1986.

His medical practice began with the Indian Health Service in Montana and Wyoming. He moved to North Dakota in 1989 and provided medical services to his beloved patients, lastly at the Heart of America Johnson Clinic in Rugby until his retirement in May, 2024.

He married Michelle Marie Olsen in Devils Lake on February 10, 1996.

In his spare time, Steve enjoyed building and flying model airplanes and helicopters, sailing, singing and playing his guitar. In the recent past he kept his fingers nimble by building elaborate Lego projects. He was a dedicated physician and loved by his community and patients.

He is survived by his wife, Michelle and their children, Heather Nolan – Billings, Montana; Jeremy and Daphne Schoneberg – Bismarck; Nikki and Derrick Dial – Billings; and Tucker Schoneberg – Grand Forks. He also leaves 4 grandchildren in addition to his brother, Andrew Schoneberg and Nicole Michand – Van Nuys, California and his sister, Gretchen and Wes Taylor – Glenrock, Wyoming. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Glenn.

A memorial service will be held at First Lutheran Church in Rugby on Sunday, June 2, 2024 at 4:00 P.M. Friends may call at the church an hour before the service.

He will be buried at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Bismarck.
