Mona Olson, 86, Minot died on Monday, May 13, 2024 in a Velva care center from multiple myeloma with her children at her side.

Mona Jean was born on September 1, 1937 in Garrison, ND to Eugene and Ella (Westburg) Falstad. She was raised and educated in Garrison, graduated from Garrison High School and attended a business college in Minot.

Mona married Rolland “Ron” Olson on June 23, 1957 in Garrison. They made their home in Minot where Mona was employed as a teller at First Western Bank and in the bookkeeping department of Midwest Federal Savings and Loan. In the late 1960s, the couple purchased a lot at Lake Metigoshe. After the flood of 2011 Mona and Ron resided at Lake Metigoshe during the summer months and in Sun City AZ during the winter months. Ron died on July 10, 2014. Mona moved to Somerset Court Assisted Living Center in November of 2019.

Mona was a former member of the First Assembly of God and Our Redeemer’s Church both in Minot and was active with the Minot Christian Women’s organization and Jail Ministry at the Ward County Jail. She was a member of the Elks and Eagles Auxiliaries in Minot and Youth for Christ organization in Phoenix AZ. She especially enjoyed Bible studies, playing cards, Bridge and Rummikub and socializing with those who needed a little extra attention.

Mona was a woman of strong faith. She often shared God’s word whether it was in conversation over coffee, teaching a Bible study, or while buying a stranger lunch. She reached out to many, even in her later years, and was a comforter and true prayer warrior.

Mona’s loving family includes her children: Cheryl (Danny) LaFontaine of Minot, Lisa Olson of Hollywood FL, Paul (Lisa) Olson of Minot and Michael (Julie) Olson of Fort Collins CO; grandchildren: Erica (Jade) Erhart, Marshall LaFontaine, Danielle (Travis) Sauber, Austin Olson, Shaylah (Jace) Anderson, Madison and Mileena Olson, and Ashley (PJ) DiSalvo; great grandchildren: Tayten, Bentley, Harper, Paxton, Finlynn, and Selah Erhart, Jayce, Hudsyn, and Brooks Sauber; brother: Robert Falstad; in-laws: Gloria Falstad, Maxine Olson and Lindee Wentling and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mona was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 57 years, and siblings: Yvonne Hoover, Renae Serrin, Blake Falstad and Gary Falstad.

Celebration of the Life of Mona Olson: May 28, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Redeemer’s Church – Minot.
