A private burial service with Military Honors will be held at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND, on May 7, 2024, at 2 PM.
Mel Hanson was born September 16, 1944, to Myron and Margene (Hansen) Hanson in Minot, ND.
Mel was raised and educated in Minot, graduating from Minot High School in 1962. During the summers of his high school years, and after graduation he took pride in working hard at custom combining through Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas with his uncle Art Skogstad.
In 1965, Mel enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country. He was honorably discharged in 1968 at Fort Stewart, GA.
For 27 years, Mel spent most of his adult life working as an area manager for Anheuser-Busch throughout Orlando, FL. Before fully retiring he worked at Home Depot in Palatka, FL.
During his time living in Minot, Mel was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Kathryn Clayton Hanson, Toomsboro, GA,
Others who shared in his life are his daughters: Teshandia Lynn McQuiggan (fiance Dan) of Fort McCoy, FL; Tamara Kathleen (Ray) Drexler of Gulfport, MS and Teresa Marleen Hanson (fiance Todd) of Eden, NC; 9 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; brothers; Galen E. (Renda) Hanson, Bismarck, ND; Clinton M. (Jylann) Hanson, Des Lacs, ND; sister, Marleen M. (Don) Sommerfield, Bismarck, -ND; one aunt, Ina Donnelly, Webster, TX; 5 brothers-in-law, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mel is preceded in death by his parents, mother-in-law, father-in-law, several aunts and uncles, a son-in-law, brother-in-law and several sisters-in-law
