Anamoose

Mathew Marcus Sieg, 100, of Anamoose, ND, passed away Saturday, May 4, 2024, at St. Aloisius Hospital SMP in Harvey, ND. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, May 11, 2024, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Anamoose with Fr. Thomas Graner celebrating. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Friday, May 10, 2024, with Rosary beginning at 6:30 PM, followed by 7:00 PM Vigil Service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service, all at the St. Francis Xavier Church. Burial will take place at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery. Everyone is welcome to livestream the service on the Prairie Pothole Parishes Facebook page. Music provided by Gladys Degenstein, Maurie Becker and the St. Francis Xavier/St. Margaret Mary’s Church Choir. Mathew ‘Matt’ Marcus Sieg was born July 31, 1923, to Frank and Mary (Kruesel) Sieg in rural Anamoose, ND. He was educated at White Township School until the eighth grade. Matt was raised on the Sieg family homestead, helping his father farm, raise cattle and dairy cows.

Matt was united in marriage to Helen Selzler on September 5, 1949, in Anamoose. They resided on the Sieg family farm east of Anamoose, farming, raising cattle and dairy cows until they moved into Anamoose in 2004.

Matt had an incredible work ethic and was not a stranger to a hard day’s work which he passed on to his children. He enjoyed reading, music and hunting as well as visiting with friends and family whom he loved fiercely. Matt was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Anamoose, the Harvey Eagle’s Club and spent over 35 years on the White Township Board as Treasurer.

Matt is survived by his children, Frank (Pat) Sieg of Anamoose, Emy (Maurie) Becker of Anamoose, Tim (Renee) Sieg of Drake, Butch (Marilyn) Sieg of Bismarck, Bonnie (Bruce) Bentz of Bismarck, Vicky (Curt) Degenstein of Minot, Tom (Lorie) Sieg of Anamoose, Robert (Kathy) Sieg of Anamoose and Mary Jund of Anamoose; 23 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Helen; grandson, Michael Stumpf; son-in-law, Patrick Jund; parents, Frank and Mary Sieg; brothers, infant John, Joseph and Larry; sisters, Pauline, Mathilda, Agnes, Lucille, Rose, Marie and Elizabeth.
