Mary Ballantyne, 62, Minot, formerly of Dickinson, ND and Billings, MT, died Friday, May 3, 2024, in a Minot hospital.

Mary Beth was born on August 4, 1961, in Minot, North Dakota, to Roger and Lorraine (Pieterick) Lock. She was raised and educated in Minot until moving to Dickinson, North Dakota where she earned her GED at the Adult Learning Center.

Mary was united in marriage to David Ballantyne on April 12, 1980, in St. Leo’s Catholic Church, Minot. The couple moved to Dickinson where she was a stay-at-home mom until becoming employed as a manager of a local liquor store. The family moved back to Minot in the early 90s where she was a manager at Master Bread.

In 2002, the family moved to Billings, Montana so Mary could provide care for her parents-in-law. She also worked at Michelotti-Sawyers Funeral Home, assisting the funeral directors and providing care to families the funeral home served. Mary brightened the day of many students in the Billings Public Schools with her sense of humor and smile in her role as a lunch lady. David died in January 2010.

Mary returned to Minot in 2014 to help her siblings care for their mother. She was employed at ING and most recently First Western Bank & Trust as a bookkeeper. Mary attended St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Minot where she was raised in the Catholic faith.

Mary was fond of her family and loved them dearly. She was affectionately referred to as “Mary Love” by her family. She brought her family together for many fun and memorable celebrations and gatherings. She was known for her ability to have a conversation with anyone. Mary enjoyed playing Bingo, Mountain Dew, grocery shopping, and “burning twenty.”

Mary is survived by her sons: Scott (Kristen Belgarde Mauldin), Minot, and Blair (Katy), Big Sky, MT; grandchildren: Ryen, Samari, Blaise, and Logan Ballantyne; siblings: Judy (Les) Brandt, West Fargo, ND, Tom (Laura) Lock, Minot, Diane (Mark) Ballew, Sioux Falls, SD, Robert (Gina) Lock, Minot, Paul (Melanie Bakke) Lock, Minot, Donna (Wade) Grosz, Minot, Lori Lock (Mike Hackett), Savage, MN; sister-in-law: Pam (Jon) Amundsen, Laurel, MT; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David; parents; and parents-in-law.

Memorial Service: May 30, 2024 at 1:30 p.m. at the Minot Moose Lodge.

Booksigning: May 30th from 12:30 p.m. until service time at the Moose Lodge.

Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot

Memorials: In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials are preferred.
