Fourth inning output cushions DLB win over Bishop Ryan

The Des Lacs-Burlington softball team had four players bat 1.000 and had two players throw a combined 12 strikeouts en route to a 16-3 win over visiting Bishop Ryan.

The Lakers had built a 7-0 lead after three and a half innings of play before sophomore Logen Ystaas hit a triple to start the bottom of the fourth inning. Fellow sophomore Elyssa Lindahl then singled to score Ystaas, and then freshman Sierra Yale singled to advance Lindahl to second and subsequently to third on a wild pitch.

After senior Zannah Bjerklie was walked to load the bases, senior Shaylie Holen hit a deep sacrifice fly to score Lindahl. A line drive single by junior Aubree Scheep advanced the runners with Yale scoring. After a fielder’s choice out, junior Gretchen Deaver took first after being hit by a pitch. Izzy Michel, the following batter, was also hit by a pitch, scoring Schepp on the play.

After Ystaas also reached by being hit by a pitch, Lindahl then tripled to score all three runners in play. Yale singled to score Lindahl giving Des Lacs-Burlington the 16-0 lead.

Bishop Ryan mounted an offensive effort in the top of the fifth inning when senior Tayler Christianson was hit by a pitch to start the inning. After the next batter struck out, eighth grader Cambree Zwak reached on an error by the Lakers. With two outs, junior Alena Hall was walked and junior Rylie Deeter singled to score two runs. Hall would end up scoring on a pass ball error before the inning ended with Des Lacs-Burlington taking the win.

Lakers Lindahl was 3-for-3 at the plate with five RBIs in the game. Ystaas was 2-for 2-with two RBs, junior Gretchen Deaver was 2-for-2 with an RBI and senior Shaylie Holen was 1-for-1 with an RBI in the win. Des Lacs-Burlington junior Aubree Scheep was 2-for-3 while Yale was 2-for-4 from the plate. As a team, the Lakers were 12-for -22 with four batters walked and only three were struck out.

Yale pitched three innings for the Lakers with no runs, no hits and walked one batter. She also struckout nine batters. Teammate Peller pitched two innings in relief and had three runs scored on one hit with one batter walked and three stuckout down the stretch.

The Lion’s Deeter was 1-for-3 in the game while the team was 1-for-17 overall at the plate. Bishop Ryan’s sophomore Kirstin Brunner pitched four innings and allowed 16 runs on 15 hits with an earned run total of 15. She also walked four batters and struck out three in the game.

Des Lacs-Burlington will travel to MayPort-CG today, May 10, while Bishop Ryan hosts Divide County today as well.
