Evelyn Gotvaslee, 93, lifelong resident of Norwich, ND, died Wednesday, May 22, 2024 in a Minot nursing home.
Evelyn Boutilier was born on January 18, 1931, on the Boutilier farm South East of Granville, ND a daughter of Peter and Elsie (Donnelly) Boutilier. She was raised along with her three older brothers, Fred, Robert “Bob,” and Richard “Dick” in Granville area and graduated from Granville High School.
On November 22, 1949, Evelyn was united in marriage to Olaf “Ole” Gotvaslee. They founded the Gotvaslee farm north of Norwich on June of 1951, this is where they raised their five children. Olaf passed away on January 27, 1992. Evelyn continued to live on the farm. As a lifelong farmer and rancher, in later years she enjoyed helping her sons where she could, moving from field to field and offering sound advice.
Evelyn had a great sense of humor and fair play, always considering the other side. She loved hearing about and visiting with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed observing the wildlife, small and large critters, and birds from her windows.
She was a member of Norwich Lutheran Church, the women of ELCA, and the Norwich Church Quilters. In the earlier years she taught Sunday School and served in various offices of the Women’s Organization. Evelyn served as Assessor for Norwich Township for eight years and as Treasurer for Norwich Lutheran Cemetery Association for 31 years.
Her loving family includes:
her children, Carol (Steve) Smith, Ronald Gotvaslee, Brian (Laurie) Gotvaslee; daughters-in-law, Sheila Gotvaslee and Kamie Gotvaslee; grandchildren, Jennifer (Brian) Klatt, Derek (Aili) Smith, Deborah (Gayle) Price, Sandy Mikaelson, Robyn (Chuck) Blaine, Victoria (Ralph) Gotvaslee, Lucas Gotvaslee, Kerry (Leanne) Gotvaslee, Shelly (Darryl) Kaylor, Shayna (Glen Lindmeyer) Gotvaslee, Robyn Gotvaslee, Dustin Gotvaslee, Gina Gotvaslee; 31 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 43 years Ole, two sons Wayne and Kenneth, a grandson Shannon, three brothers Fred, Bob and Dick and an infant sister.
Visitation: There will be no reviewal as cremation has taken place, however, friends may sign a guest register on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at the Norwich Lutheran Church, Norwich, ND.
Funeral Service: Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 10:30 am at the Norwich Lutheran Church, Norwich, ND. The funeral service will be livestreamed and may be accessed at the link provided on Evelyn’s page at www.thompsonlarson.com.
Interment: a private committal service will take place at the Norwich Lutheran Cemetery, Norwich, ND.
