Maxine Nehring, a daughter of Oscar and Dora (Butz) Berg, was born on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1939, with a broken arm at the family home in Kramer during a blizzard. At a young age she moved with her family to Washington State before returning to Kramer. They then moved to Minot and Maxine graduated from Minot High School as co-valedictorian in 1956. Despite initially turning him down for a dance at Kramer, she married the love of her life Dwayne Nehring on December 21, 1956, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Minot. They moved into Gardena and during the winter, Maxine worked at Woolworth’s in Minot. Jeff was born in August of 1957. In the fall of 1960, they moved to the farm near Gardena. Susan was born in December of 1964 and in 1971, they had a stillborn daughter, Robyn, who will now be sleeping with her mom. Maxine was crucial to the family farm operations, bringing meals out to the field, moving vehicles, hauling grain in her favorite yellow truck and mowing grass.

Maxine served on the Bottineau County Election Board, was a member of Birthday Club and Saturday morning coffee group. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, gardening, shopping in her high heels, discussing politics, and drinking Pepsi. Maxine was an avid Vikings and Twins fan and was in attendance for the 1991 World Series Championship. She also enjoyed watching Johnny Carson and was a Jeopardy aficionado. Celebrating the holidays was always special to Maxine; she especially enjoyed decorating, cooking, and baking holiday themed treats. Once harvest was complete, she and Dwayne were fond of traveling to warmer climates in the winter months.

Maxine loved being a Grandma, always chasing the kids with a camera, taking them to the parks and fairs, and filling them full of sugar.

She is survived by her husband of 67+ years, Dwayne; son, Jeff Nehring (Kim) of West Fargo; daughter, Susan Nehring of Fargo; grandchildren, Stephanie Nehring Walker (Gerard) of New York, NY; Nathan Nehring (Wesy) of Aspen, CO; Natalie Lodoen (Danen) of Westhope; and Dawson Nehring of Fargo; great-grandchildren, Quentin Walker, Everly Lodoen and Lincoln Lodoen and numerous nieces and nephews.
