Lorraine E. Volochenko, 87, of Balfour, ND, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at St. Aloisius SMP Health Long Term Care in Harvey, ND. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, April 29, 2024 at the First Lutheran Church in Harvey, ND with Pastor Katie Rodriguez officiating.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM followed by a 7:00 PM Prayer Service Sunday, April 28, 2024 at the Bethke-Nelson Funeral Home in Drake, ND. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at the Kief Cemetery. The service will be livestreamed on the Harvey First Lutheran Church Facebook Page. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Kief Community Cemetery Association: 246 33rd Street NE Balfour, ND 58712.

Lorraine Evelyn Jesz, the oldest daughter born to Emanuel and Katherine (Hausauer) Jesz on June 1, 1936 at Skogmo, ND, was a strong and enduring woman. She married Peter Volochenko on November 9, 1953. Together they had three sons. She took great pride in their farm by Kief, ND. Her yard was always perfectly manicured and her garden was large and bountiful. Lorraine was an excellent cook and baker and fed her family and friends well. She was a wonderful Grandmother and truly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

She spent her final year at St. Aloisius SMP Health Long Term Care in Harvey, where she was known as the Puzzle Lady. Her family would like to send a special Thank You to the staff for the love and care they provided her. It is there that she passed away on April 24, 2024.

Lorraine is survived by her husband of 70 years, Peter; sons, Jim (Barb) and Kelly (Pam) of Balfour, ND; grandchildren, Dustin (Natasha) Volochenko, Amanda (Lucas) Presser, Kaitlyn (Peter) Bopp, Karley Volochenko and Kenzie Volochenko; great-grandchildren, Leah, Lani, Drew and James Volochenko; brothers, Welford (Donna) Jesz, Ernie (Ruth) Jesz; sister, Charlotte Petersen.

She was preceded in death by her son, Mark (age 4); parents, Emanuel and Katherine Jesz; brothers, Melvin Jesz and Clarence Jesz; sister, Evengeline Willows; sister-in-law, Violet Jesz; brother-in-law, Richard Petersen.
