Carlyle McIlroy, 87, Minot, ND, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2024, at Trinity Hospital.

Carlyle McIlroy was born in 1937 to Dean and Nell McIlroy. He grew up in Glenburn where his family farmed. In 1960, he married Peggy. A few months later, he was drafted into the Army and spent a couple years based in Michigan. Carl returned to Glenburn after he left the Army. He farmed and worked at the Minot Air Force base.

They had three children. His family was very important to him. He enjoyed spending time with friends and relatives.

He also enjoyed riding horses, farming and repairing things. He often repaired vehicles, tractors or anything that needed to be fixed. He built the house where his kids grew up.

Later, Carl and Peggy moved to Minot and worked at Dakota Terrace apartments. He continued working at Minot Air Force base in the evenings for several more years. He was a very hard worker and continued to work into his 80’s. He helped many people throughout his lifetime, and he will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his daughter Nancy (Kirk) Johnson, grandchildren Micah and Joshua, Mary Ann Zwinger, Joyce DuPay, Larry (Debbie) O’Connell, David (Ann) O’Connell, and Gary (Jan) O’Connell and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents Nell and Dean McIlroy, his wife of 63 years Peggy, sons Tom and Dennis, his brother Dean McIlroy Jr., sisters Jean Paulson and Joyce McGlenn, his brothers- in-law: Duane Zwinger and Mike DuPay, Dorothy and Basil O’Connell, nephews Scott McGlenn, Paul O’Connell and sister-in-law Anadine O’Connell.
