Gary Newman, 80, Minot, ND, formerly of Sawyer, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Trinity Hospital.

Gary was born October 20, 1943, the son of Gerald and Mildred (Goebel) Newman, in Minot. He was raised and educated in Sawyer, graduating from Sawyer High School in 1962. After high school, Gary served in the United States Army Reserve from 1963 until 1969.

Gary married Carol E. Baker in 1967. The couple made their home in Sawyer where they raised their two children, Wendy and Tim.

Gary worked on the family farm south of Sawyer alongside his father. He also worked at various other places such as Minot Farmer Elevator, Dakota Drug, and Market Place Foods.

He enjoyed many hobbies throughout his life; camping and fishing were his favorites. He was a very caring person, always there to lend a hand to whoever needed it. He was blessed to have many friends.

He belonged to the Sawyer Lions Club. Sawyer volunteer Fire Department, and the Sawyer Senior Citizens. For a few years he helped maintain the Sawyer Community Cemetery and attended the Southside Church of the Nazarene in Minot.

The Newman family would like to thank the nurses and staff from the Souris Valley Care Center and Trinity Hospital.

His loving family includes: wife of 56 years, Carol E. Newman; daughter, Wendy (Tony) Long, Sawyer; son, Tim (Melissa) Newman, Surrey; 6 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; sisters, Linda Howe, Velva, Diane (Bob) Hensel, Park Rapids, MN; along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Mildred Newman and sister, Gayle Grabill.

Memorial Service: Friday, March 8, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Southside Church of the Nazarene, Minot.

Interment: Rosehill Memorial Cemetery, Minot, ND.

Visitation: One hour prior to service

Memorials: are preferred to the Southside Church of the Nazarene, Minot.
