Gary Scott Gumeringer was born on November 19, 1958 to Edward B. and Mary Ellen Gumeringer in Rugby, N.D. He was raised on the family farm with his five siblings.
Gary attended Esmond Public School graduating in 1977. He attended Minot State University for two years and received an associate degree in Geology. He then returned to the family farm working with his father to farm, build a dairy operation and manage a herd of beef cattle.
Gary was a very hard worker and dedicated to the farm. As a young boy, he would milk cows before going to school, spent his summers painting, hauling bales, picking rocks and tending cattle. As he got older, he was instrumental in breeding a top dairy herd with his brother Guy, until the dairy barn burned down in 1989. Gary farmed with his father and Guy and then eventually farmed all of the Gumeringer land.
Gary fulfilled a childhood dream of building a log cabin home in a grove of evergreen trees he planted as a child. One of the joys in his life was sitting on his porch with Julie Rosendahl, his long term girlfriend, friends, family and the dogs. Gary loved dogs, and had one his whole life. Dogs loved him too. Every dog on the farm ended up with Gary, even if he was given to someone else.
His friends were very important to him. He grilled food, organized pot lucks and get-togethers at the Selz Bar for many football games, events and holidays. He was always willing to help move them, borrow them money and make sure they had something to eat.
Gary is survived by his brothers Guy Gumeringer of Esmond, ND and Paul (DeeDee) Gumeringer of Harvey, ND; sisters, Lorrie (Jerry) Thoemke of Fargo, ND and Connie (Todd) Koenig of Roseau, MN; girlfriend, Julie Rosendahl of Esmond, ND; numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward B. and Mary Ellen Gumeringer; sister, Janie Lee; and nephew, Theodore Lee (TJ).
