Duane Swanson, 86, Minot, died Monday, March 18, 2024, in a Minot hospital.

Duane August Swanson was born June 26, 1937, in rural Minot, the son of Marion and Margaret (Gustavson) Swanson. He was raised and educated in rural Minot.

Duane assisted on a ranch in Upham for a time and then was employed at Northern Auction and Minot Auction. He was employed at Cenex in Minot for over twenty years and worked in various positions, primarily maintenance.

In Duane’s free time you could often find him performing odd jobs, wherever they were needed, taking care of his miniature donkeys and goats, and while he was home, more than likely he was chatting someone’s ear off on the phone. He especially enjoyed socializing with anyone who would listen, no matter where he was at.

Duane is survived by his son Kenneth Swanson, Logan, stepchildren Karen Austin, Minot and Kevin Austin, Bismarck, granddaughters Kasey Austin and Kylie Austin, both of Minot, and sisters Marlene Demaree, Minot and Eileen Reddick, Miles City, MT along with numerous extended relatives.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents and wife Elsiemae.

A memorial gathering for friends and family will be held on Friday, March 22, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
