Dec. 20, 1924-Feb. 28, 2024

Garrison

Doris Landon (Price) of Garrison, N.D., formerly of Ryder, N.D., passed away Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at a Garrison nursing home.

Doris Louise Price was born December 20, 1924 to Emil and Anna (Hacanson) Price on the family farm southwest of Douglas, N.D. She was the youngest of six children. As a child, she enjoyed animals, especially riding horseback. She attended elementary school in a rural school in Romsaas Township and graduated from Ryder High School in 1942. After graduating, she worked at the ASC office in Garrison, N.D. She then attended Interstate Business College in Fargo, N.D. After working for a time in Moorhead, Minnesota as a stenographer, she moved to Los Angeles, California and acquired a position as a secretary to the owner of a Chevrolet company.

Due to her father’s poor health, she returned to Minot in 1949 and obtained a position as a Civil Servant Secretary for the Bureau of Reclamation in Minot.

After moving back to Minot, she met and married Bob Landon of Ryder at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church on June 3, 1951. They lived on the Landon Farm, southwest of Ryder. They had one son, Gregory Mark.

Bob and Doris farmed and raised cattle, sheep, pigs, and chickens. Doris enjoyed taking an active part in the farm work. She helped with the haying; and during harvest, she drove the grain truck and combine. She also had a bountiful garden and canned numerous quarts of fruits and vegetables each fall. She enjoyed working side-by-side with Bob–he always had a great sense of humor.

Doris was an active member of the Ryder Presbyterian Church and the Ladies’ Aid and served as Sunday School teacher for many years. She joined the Busy Bee Homemakers’ Club. She served as secretary in the Blue Hill Farmers’ Union and secretary to the PTA of the Ryder School. She belonged to the Hiddenwood Picnic Association and Auxiliary.

Doris and Bob joined the Minot Moose Lodge. One of their favorite times together was dancing. They also enjoyed playing cards in their home community. Doris belonged to a bowling league in Parshall for a time.

After Bob retired from farming, their son, Gregory, returned to the farm from Denver, C.O. He married Cathy Farhart of Stanley, N.D.; and they have 3 children: Justin, Jeremy, and Chelsey. Doris was very proud of her son, daughter-in-law, and three grandchildren.

After Greg and family took over the farming operation and moved into the original farm house, Bob and Doris moved into a mobile home just west of the farm. After a time, Doris and Bob moved into Minot to be closer to healthcare and friends.

Her loving family includes: her son, Greg (Cathy) Landon; grandchildren, Justin, Jeremy, and Chelsey; sister-in-law, Marge Wall; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; parents; sisters, Hazel (Jim) Becker, Alice (Vern) Bloom, and Ethel (Lynn) Ziegler; brothers, Wilbert (Frances) Price and Donald (Ruth) Price; one infant granddaughter; and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
