Phyllis Hanson, 100, Kenmare, ND, passed away Wednesday, February 21, 2024, in her home.

Phyllis Gernell French was born March 7, 1923, the daughter of Oren “Herb” and Elena (Mahlum) French, in Wolf Point, MT. She was raised on the family farm in Crowfoot Township.

Phyllis married Oren Hanson on October 31, 1940, in Plentywood, MT. They made their home north of Palermo in Crowfoot Township, Mountrail County, where they farmed and ranched, raised their family and opened their home to family, neighbors, and friends. In 2002, Oren & Phyllis moved to Kenmare and Oren passed away April 3, 2004. Phyllis continued to live in her house in Kenmare until her death.

She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and the Bethlehem Ladies Aide until it closed. Then she became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Kenmare. Phyllis was a woman of great faith. She strongly believed in the power of prayer and prayed faithfully for her family, friends, and neighbors. She was a great cook and loved feeding people. She enjoyed writing poetry and sharing it through her readings. She loved gardening, and was an avid reader all her life. In her later years, she enjoyed her flowers and watching her birds. Phyllis always loved having her family and friends around her and was famous for her words of wisdom and her hugs.

Her loving family includes: children, Adrian (Linda) Hanson, Gary (Faye) Hanson, DeVonne Hanson; her special girls, Marcia Walhaug, Connie Livingston, Jean Schwartz, Shiela Mugaas, Judy Watland, Marlene Allery; grandchildren, Tammy (Steve) Feil, Byron Hanson, Chris Hanson, Trent (Pallavi) Hanson, Travis (Kelli) Hanson, Tabatha (Matthew) Barrett; great-grandchildren, Joshua (Courtney) Feil, Ethan Feil, Jaden Feil, Avery Hanson, Devin Hanson, Megan Hanson, Logan Hanson, Galadrial Barrett, Azriella Barrett, Lorelei Barrett; great-great-grandchildren, Josiah Feil, Nolan Feil, Roxanne Feil; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 63 years, Oren; daughter, Vernell Mae Hanson; brothers, Elton (Nettie) French, Whitman French, Ward (Marion) French, Hiro (Evelyn) French; sisters, Bernice Swartz, Erma Fuller.

Funeral: Friday, March 1, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Kenmare.

Interment: Coulee Cemetery, Coulee, ND.

Visitation: Thursday from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Kenmare.

Prayer Service: Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Kenmare.
