Marilyn Holbach, 76, Minot, passed away Sunday, February 25, 2024 on what would have been her seventy-six birthday. She had been a resident at the Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford, North Dakota for the past five years.

Marilyn Lawler was born on February 25, 1948 in Jamestown, North Dakota. She was the oldest of four children born to Darrell and Beverly (Clemens) Lawler.

She attended school in Jamestown and graduated from Jamestown College with a degree in Library Science. After graduation she moved to Washington, where she earned her Master’s at the University of Washington, Seattle, WA. She was also employed by the University and drove the bookmobile in Four Corners, Washington.

Marilyn moved to Minot in 1982 and began her career with the Minot Public Library retiring in 2011. Throughout the years she served in the positions of Assistant Director and as Reference Librarian. During her role as Reference Librarian and before the days of Google, she assisted many library patrons as they searched for information. She excelled in that position as she found answers to the many questions that the patrons brought to her. Library patrons that she assisted showed their thanks with notes and letters of gratitude which she saved and cherished.

Marilyn married Larry Holbach of Minot on January 14, 1989. She enjoyed living on the farm just west of Minot. She and Larry planted many of the trees that now surround that farmstead. During the years she had several dogs, but her favorite was Charlie. She and Charlie enjoyed their daily walks around the farm.

She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Throughout the years Marilyn enjoyed the fellowship of her fellow sorority sisters. Marilyn also belonged to the Minot Prairie Quilt Guild. She and her mother-in-law, Margaret, regularly attended the monthly meetings. Marilyn especially enjoyed hand embroidery work.

Marilyn’s loving family includes: her husband, Larry; mother, Beverly Lawler; brother, Jan; sisters, Kathy, and Kim and their families; step-children, Randy, Cindy, and Mitchell and their families; sisters-in-law, Julane (Dick) Matejovsky, Eileen Larson, and Marietta Clemens and their families.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her father, Darrell Lawler and step-son, Chris Holbach.

Memorial Service: Thursday, February 29, 2024, 1:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, Minot with signing of a guest register one hour prior to the service.

Inurnment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
