Robert Wheeling
Feb 3, 1931-Jan 11, 2024
Plaza
Robert Gilman Wheeling was born February 3, 1931, to Edgar and Helma (Braaflat) Wheeling, on a farm three miles north of Plaza. He was raised and educated in Plaza, graduating from Plaza High School in 1949. He participated in basketball and track. He shared many of his memories and reminisced about his scoring records with his family.
On December 26, 1949, Robert was united in marriage to Gertrude “Susie” Lee in Minot. They made their home on his family’s farm where he tended the dairy cows and farmed. They were blessed with a large family. Susie passed away on June 28, 2018. Shortly after he moved to assisted living in Minot.
Throughout the years Robert remained active in the community. He drove a school bus for ten years and served on the elevator board. He was elected as a Mountrail County Commissioner and was appointed to several area boards. He was proud of his accomplishment on the Building Committee for First Lutheran Church.
Robert loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a storyteller and enjoyed sharing his tales with anyone who would listen. He seemed to always know someone wherever he went. Besides visiting with family and friends, he looked forward to his annual deer hunting trip to Squaw Gap.
On Thursday, January 11, 2024, Robert Wheeling was surrounded by his family as he passed away at a Tioga medical center. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
