Richard Irvan Gunter was born on August 21, 1933 to Irvan and Myrtle (Nelson) Gunter in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Richard was drafted to the U.S. Army in June 1953 and honorably discharged in April of 1956. He was united in marriage to Alice Mahle in Mentor, Minnesota and later moved to Towner to begin their life together in the bee business. He leaves a legacy behind with his “Queen Bee” of 66 years, Alice; children, Lauri (Ron) Miller of McVille, Dwight (Joan) Gunter of Towner, Daniel (Theresa) Gunter of Towner and Lisa (Brad) Huffstuttler of Crockett, Texas; nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Sharon (Virgil) Wise of Corpus Christi, Texas and sister-in-law, Jane Gunter of Edinburg. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 3 at Zion Lutheran Church in Towner with burial in the summer at Union Cemetery, Towner. Visitation will be on Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service and sharing of memories beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Towner.
