Paul Negaard, 64, Minot, ND, formerly of Columbus, ND, died Thursday, January 4, 2024 in a Minot hospital.

Paul was born on May 23, 1959, a son of Julius and Doreen (Bomstad) Negaard in Crosby, ND. He was raised on the family farm with his three brothers in Columbus, ND. In 1977, he graduated from Columbus High School. Paul furthered his education by attending the North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, ND.

Following his education, Paul began working for Burke Divide Electric Cooperative. He eventually left North Dakota to attend fiber-optic school and lived in Portland, OR, where he worked as a telecommunications contractor. Paul helped install fiber optics in college campuses throughout the United States and Nike headquarters in Beaverton, OR. Following Paul’s diagnosis with Multiple Sclerosis, Paul returned to North Dakota to be closer to family.

Paul had enjoyed golfing, hunting, and playing cards. MS caused loss of mobility and coordination and took away his ability to enjoy these activities in the prime of his life. His positive mental attitude in dealing with this was an inspiration to others.

Paul is survived by his three brothers Jerome Negaard, Larry Negaard, and Don (Jennifer) Negaard; nephews and nieces, Jeffey Negaard, Nathan Negaard, Amanda Negaard, Mari Flatt, Michelle Gibner, Holly Anderson, Shannon Negaard and Brittany Negaard. Paul was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial Services will be held at Short Creek Cemetery, rural Columbus, ND at 2:00 pm on June 7, 2024. A family visitation will take place at Thompson Larson Funeral Home in Minot, ND on June 6, 2024 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The family prefers any memorials be given to the Short Creek Cemetery or a charity of the donor’s choice.
