Millard H. Skar, 86, Kenmare, ND, passed away on Monday, January 1, 2024 in a Minot hospital.

Millard Harold Skar was born on the family farm north of Knox, ND on June 25th, 1937, a son of Selmer and Minnie (Larson) Skar. He was raised and educated in the Knox area.

Millard enlisted in the United States Navy as a young man and served until he was honorably discharged. Upon coming home, he worked with his brother Les constructing grain elevators for Vigen Construction in East Grand Forks, MN., and later with his brother Milton constructing and repairing grain elevators in ND and MT.

Millard met the love of his life, JoAnn Emmel, in Minot and they were united in marriage on July 2nd, 1965. They made their home in Kenmare where he farmed, continued to work on grain elevators and did construction, carpentry and remodeling work as well.

Millard was a founding member of Faith Baptist Church and served as a youth leader there for many years. Upon his retirement, he enjoyed being a grandpa to Sierra and Sheldon and going to their sporting events and getting them and their friends to and from practices. Him and JoAnn moved to the Wellington in Minot on January of 2022 where he resided until he went home to be with the Lord on New Years Day 2024.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years – JoAnn, Son Jason (Melanie) Skar; Granddaughter, Sierra (Isaac) Nordloef; Grandson, Sheldon Skar and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Selmer and Minnie; Brothers, Marvin, Orville, Les, Obert, Clifford, Milton, and twin brother Maynard; his father and mother-in-law, Levi and Agnes Emmel and brother-in-law Dean Emmel.

Visitation: Friday, January 5, 2024 from 4 until 6 pm at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Kenmare

Funeral Service: Saturday, January 6, 2024, at 11 am at Faith Baptist Church, Kenmare, ND

Burial: Rosehill Cemetery, Norma, ND
