Lois Darlene Marchus, 82, Rugby, died at her home early Tuesday morning, January 23, 2024.
Lois was born in Rugby on July 11, 1941 to Gifford Ira and Olive Henrietta Hanson Marchus. She grew up in the Wolford area and graduated from Rugby High School in 1958. In 1961, she graduated from Trinity Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse.
Lois worked in hospitals in North Dakota, Colorado, Nebraska, Oregon, and Arizona for a total of 48 years, ten of which she was a traveling nurse, which she enjoyed greatly.
For several years she worked at the “Free Clinic” in Minot before moving to Rugby in 2012, where she volunteered at the Haaland Home and long term care unit at the Heart of America Medical Center. She was once married to Bill Ehlers.
Lois was well known in the Rugby community for her twice daily long distance walks around town. She also enjoyed yard work, growing flowers, playing the piano, and caring for dogs.
Lois is survived by her daughter, Julie Herzig – Minot and two grandchildren – Nick and Mallory and a great-granddaughter Jayleigh. She also leaves one brother, Loren – Wolford.
She was preceded in death by a son, Mark Ehlers in 2016, her parents and siblings, Lloyd, Lyle, Larry and Leland.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 28th at 2:00 P.M. at the Niewoehner Funeral Home. She will be buried in the Wolford Cemetery in the spring.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 10:00 A.M. on Sunday.
