Lois Larsen
April 18, 1943-Jan. 19, 2024
Kenmare
Lois Larsen, 80, Kenmare, ND, passed away Friday, January 19, 2024, at the Kenmare Community Hospital.
Lois Maureen Lindberg was born April 18, 1943, the daughter of Walter and Clara (Rogne) Lindberg, in Kenmare, ND. She was raised on the family farm and attended country school in Vanville Township. She graduated from Kenmare High School in 1961.
She married Dale Larsen on February 17, 1962, in Coteau. They made their home in Epping, Columbus, and Kenmare, ND, before building a home near Lois’ mother Clara after her father Walter’s passing.
Lois and Dale raised Registered Polled Hereford Cattle on the family farm for several years. Her interest in cattle was inspired by and shared with her father, Walter, and brother, Dennis. Lois was always ambitious, not only raising cattle but also doing yard work, gardening, and baking. Her home was always spotless and a showcase of collectibles and various house plants. In 2001 Lois was honored to be chosen as a finalist for the ND Country Woman of the Year.
Lois loved to work in her flower garden. She earned “Best of Show” awards and blue ribbons at flower shows, the ND State Fair, and the Burke County Fair. She enjoyed sharing her flowers at church on Sundays. She was also a wonderful baker, although she preferred to be outdoors. She made the best Thanksgiving and Christmas meals, and her lemon meringue pie and sugar cookies were special treats. Lois loved Medora as a special place and enjoyed the yearly family trip there.
Lois was a member of Elmdale Lutheran Church, Niobe, and its WELCA group. She was a prior member of Lostwood Lutheran Church, which her father helped to build, and Bethlehem Lutheran Church until its closing, where she taught Sunday School and held offices in WELCA along with planning several Music for Mission events. Lois also served on the local board of AID Association for Lutherans for many years and was actively involved in the Kenmare Christian Women’s Club as a special features chairperson.
In recent years Lois and Dale lived with their daughter Wendy in Kenmare during the winter months and still enjoyed summers on the farm. With her family’s support and care, Lois was able to live at home for many years after suffering serious health challenges. In the last year of her life, Lois received tenderness and care from new friends at the Kenmare Hospital, many of whom went above and beyond in their kindness and consideration to her.
Her loving family includes: husband, Dale; son, Mark (Gloria) Larsen; daughter, Wendy Larsen; grandchildren, Brad (Kristen) Jones and their children, Morgan and Kyler, Kim (Darin) Ziemer and their children Adam, Caden, and Brynn, and Travis (Emily) Jones, and son, Nolan; niece, Allison (Chris) Holmen and their children, Lindsey and Brandon; brother-in-law, Gary (Gloria) Larsen, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Dennis Lindberg; parents-in-law, Jens and Edna Larsen; sisters-in-law, Doris Schiele, and Eileen Larsen; brother-in-law, Luther Larsen; great-nephew, Blake Holmen; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
