Joann Jensen, 89, Kenmare, ND, passed away Thursday, January 4, 2024, at Kenmare Community Hospital.

Joann Edythe Brekhus was born January 22, 1934, the daughter of Julius and Edith (Stangeland) Brekhus, in Tolley, ND. She was raised in Renville County on the family farm and graduated from Dakota Lutheran in Minot.

She married Eugene “Ducky” Jensen on March 5, 1954, in Sherwood. They made their home on the family farm in Denmark Township where she worked alongside her husband. They raised their family on the farm until they moved to Kenmare in 2009. Throughout her working career Joann was a teacher, a cook and waitress at Lakeshore, a cook at the hospital, cashier at Red Owl, and a cook at the Kenmare High School. Eugene passed away on September 1, 2010.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Kenmare. She enjoyed sewing, macrame, gardening, bowling, canning, playing piano, and playing cards. She also liked to have big family Sunday dinners and traveling to visit family… once she got in the car.

Her loving family includes: children, Gary (Janna) Jensen, Jacki Jensen, Vicki (Tom) Herman, Lori Jensen; grandchildren, Jesse (Yrama), Lucy (Kelly), Michelle (Nick), Donald (Michelle), Michael, Jason (Christa), Jennifer, and Lyn; great-grandchildren, Lucia, Oliver, Ovidia, Kyle, Kiersten, Madelyn, Xavier, Zachary, Bentley, Maximus, Landry, Tillie, Lydia, and Benton; brothers, Clifford (LaVonne) Brekhus, Palmer (Karen) Brekhus, Kenneth (Colleen) Brekhus, Marvin (Gayle) Brekhus, Boyd (Shelley) Brekhus; sisters, Judith Egeberg, Cleo Medlock, Margo (Ronald) Egeberg, Carolyn Vinyardand numerous nieces, nephews and cousins She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; siblings, Harold Brekhus, Comard Brekhus, Grace Brekhus, Sharon Ackerman, Dean Brekhus, Zona Brekhus; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral: Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Kenmare.

Interment: Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Kenmare, ND.

Memorials: are preferred to Camp Metigoshe, Alzheimer’s Association, or Kenmare Ambulance Service.
