Theodore G. Grandall, 77, Lignite, ND, passed away Saturday, December 16, 2023, at a Minot hospital.
Theodore (Ted) Grandall was born on January 11, 1946 in Powers Lake, ND to Gerald and Eileen C. (Gullickson) Grandall of Lignite, ND. He was raised on the family farm South of Lignite. Ted attended Lignite Schools, graduating as Valedictorian in 1963. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Minot State College in 1967.
On August 4, 1967, Ted and Wilma J. Eaton were married in Flaxton, ND. They lived in various places throughout their lives, with Ted holding a variety of jobs and Wilma teaching in public schools. They taught in Kenmare until he performed military service in Vietnam. Upon his return Ted turned to farming. In 1989 they moved to Killeen, TX and taught school for a year, before returning to ND. They lived and taught in Whiteshield.
In 1995 they returned to Lignite and were employed in the Burke Central School System. Ted served as Burke County Auditor, Burke County Disaster Emergency Services Coordinator and then returned to teaching at Burke Central until his retirement.
Ted enjoyed vegetable gardening immensely, and even more, enjoyed giving the produce to friends and neighbors. Wilma died unexpectedly April 12, 2003, leaving a painful hole in Ted’s heart and in the family’s hearts.
Ted enjoyed visiting with people whether friends or strangers. He especially enjoyed explaining things in depth, with special fondness for precise descriptions of scientific and mathematical processes and results.
Ted was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Lignite; he was involved with the church council, altar guild and the choir. Ted had a special affection for the people of Christ Lutheran. He was also a member of the American Legion Post, NDEA, NEA, Mu Sigma Tau fraternity at Minot State University and Lignite Lion’s Club.
His loving family includes:
Brothers, Michael Grandall, Grand Forks, ND, and Elliott (Karen) Grandall, Spring Valley, MN; nieces and nephews, David Grandall, Soren (Emily, Tate, and Dax) Grandall, Brenda (Chris) Chrstianson (Heather and David), Amie (Ray) Kraft (Ethan, Alyssa, and Ciara), Dan (Amy) Nelson (Micah, Isaac, and Addie), and Leslie (David) Rubbert (Faye, Kari, and Emma).
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Wilma.
Visitation: will take place one hour prior to the service.
Funeral: Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, Lignite.
Interment: First Lutheran Cemetery, Lignite, ND.
Memorials: are preferred to Christ Lutheran Church, Lignite or donors choice.
