Lynn Hornaday Sr., 82, Minot, ND, walked with his Lord to his heavenly home on December 5, 2023. He was surrounded by his loving family as he left Trinity Hospital.
On July 25, 1941, Lynn Allen Hornaday Sr. was born the 4th child of 10 to Loyal and Gertie (Wadholm) Hornaday in Parshall, ND. He was raised and attended school in Parshall where he graduated from Parshall High School in 1959.
Lynn volunteered for the draft and spent most of his U.S. Army time stationed in Germany. He always talked about how great it felt coming home on a ship and seeing the Statue of Liberty. After Lynn was honorably discharged he worked for a short time at M&H gas station, while working there he met Mavis and in 1966, he began his 31 years of working at the Minot Air Force Base as a civilian with the Department of Defense. He retired in 1997, not wanting to sit still he worked 10 more years at the Dakota Inn, Minot, where he enjoyed meeting all the travelers.
Lynn married Mavis Schlosser on February 20, 1964, they were married for almost 60 years. He enjoyed having a big garden, and grocery shopping with Mavis, making sure his pantries were always full or should we say overstocked! Lynn was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Minot.
Lynn would want to thank the wonderful neighbors, especially Scott and Jill Muhle, who have taken over all of the outside chores these last couple of years!
His loving family includes: wife of almost 60 years, Mavis, Minot; children, Lee (Kami Kalberer) Hornaday, Minot, and Lee’s son Ben Hornaday, Lynn, Jr. “Bud” (Melissa) Hornaday, Minot, and their children, Tanner (Davana) Hornaday, Brianna (Terrell Moore) Hornaday, Lynell Bachmeier, Stanley, ND, and her children, Kelsey (Manuel) Baeza, Caitlyn (Spencer Brekhus) Bachmeier, Annie (Carter Gage) Bachmeier; brothers, Forrest Hornaday, Scappoose, OR and Rick (Wanda) Hornaday, Minot; sisters, Fern (Harlan) Skarphol, Ryder, ND and Sharon Hornaday, Portland, OR. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Lane Hornaday; sisters, Yvonne Olson, Carol Norton, Marsha Peterson, Lauren Ruland and Bonnie Hornaday; nephews, Kelly Norton, Patrick Riley and Mathew Rudland; nieces, Kathy Barry, Keri Edwards, Kyanne Olson and Kym Capek.
Funeral: Monday, December 11, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.
Visitation: Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
