Ken Bittner, 91, Garrison, ND, formerly of Clyde, ND, passed away Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at CHI Community Memorial Hospital in Garrison with his loving family surrounding him.

Ken was born May 6, 1932 in Clyde, ND to John and Mary (Gartner) Bittner. He was raised and educated in Clyde, ND. At age 17, Ken took over the farming after his dad passed away. He farmed for four years by himself until his brother, Leo, could join him after he finished school and joined the Army.

Ken and Leo farmed for 48 years together. In the Fall of 1969, they started the Polaris Shop in Clyde and ran that in the winters until 1981. In 1992, Ken retired from farming full time but continued to help his nephew, Dean, with farming.

In the fall of 1997, Ken and Josie moved to Minot to be closer to Lois and her family. While in Minot, they made many new friends and family. They would spend their time working for Our Lady of Grace Pantry.

Ken and Josie spent 31 years in Arizona in the winter enjoying themselves with family friends and lots of new friends.

In 2022, Ken and Josie moved to the Meadows in Garrison close to Carey and Lois. Ken would move out of the Meadows and live with Carey and Lois until he was eventually moved into the Garrison Hospital Nursing Home.

Ken is survived by: daughter, Lois (Carey) Mautz, Garrison; grandchildren, Kendal Mautz and his partner, Melanie Tischleder, Fargo; brother, Leo (Lil) Bittner, Devils Lake; sisters-in-law, Marlyn Gapp, Wahalla and Lorraine Metzger, Minnesota; and several nieces, nephews and cousins

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 61 years, Josie; brothers, Elvin and wife Catherine, Elmer and wife Delores; sister, Helen and her husband Nick Schottenbauer; 7 brothers-in-law and 2 sisters-in-law.

Mass of Christian Burial: Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Church, Minot.

Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.

Visitation: Tuesday from 4 to 5 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Vigil Prayer Service: Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Memorials: are preferred to Our Lady of Grace Food Pantry.
