Fred L. Bauer Jr., 79, Minot, died Saturday, November 25, 2023 in his daughter’s home.

Fred Lee Bauer was born on August 1, 1944, a son of Fred O. and Mable D. (Lee) Bauer in Minot, ND. He was raised and educated in Minot, where he graduated in 1962 from Minot High School.

On July 15, 1965, Fred enlisted into the United States Army. He proudly serviced his country, receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Marksman Badge (Rifle), and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged on June 27, 1967.

In 1969, Fred was united in marriage to Carol Weber. To this union a daughter Heather was born. The couple later divorced.

In 1974, Fred was united in marriage to Barbara Scott. To this union a son Eric was born. The couple later divorced.

Fred furthered his education by attending the North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, ND, where he studied to become an electrician. He began his electrical career at Northwestern Electric in Minot. He worked there until the mid-1980’s, where Fred worked on several power plants and paper mills throughout the US. He later returned to Minot, and Northwestern Electric, until retirement.

Fred was a member of VFW Post #753, where he enjoyed telling stories and visiting. He was also a member of the Victor B. Wallin Post #12 American Legion of Washburn, ND.

He enjoyed the outdoors hunting, golfing, archery, riding motorcycle and fishing. In Fact, Fred fished so much that no one would go with his because he did not know when to quit. He also enjoyed making Beet Pickles.

Fred is survived by:

Children: Heather M (significant-other Brian Wallin) Hall; Eric L. (Amanda) Bauer; step-son Wade (Tammy) Scott; Four grandchildren: Noah Hall, Seriana Hall, Ty Bauer, Courtney Scott; two great-grandchildren: Ella and Mia; Sister: Peggy (Darrell) Hight; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, sister Cecile Fetzer, niece Kathy Erickson, nephew Michael Fetzer, brothers-in-law Alvin Fetzer and Harold Jensen.

Visitation: Wednesday, December 6, 2023 from 1 pm until service time in Thompson-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, Minot

Memorial Service: Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at 2 pm in Thompson-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, Minot a celebration of life will be held at the VFW Post 753 beginning at 4 pm following the service.

Burial with military honors: Thursday, December 7, 2023 at 11am at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND
