Frances K. Duchsherer, 85, of Drake, ND, passed away Sunday, December 3, 2023, at St. Aloisius Long Term Care Center in Harvey, ND. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, December 7, 2023, with Rosary beginning at 10:15 AM at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Drake, ND with Fr. Thomas Graner celebrating. Burial will take place at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery in Karlsruhe, ND. The service will be livestreamed on the Prairie Pothole Parish Facebook Page on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to: Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery P.O. Box K Velva, ND 58790-0496 or St. Aloisius Nursing Home 325 Brewster Street E. Harvey, ND 58341. Frances Katherine was born July 16, 1938 to Fabian and Magdalene (Kurtz) Black in Berwick, North Dakota. She was raised and educated in Berwick, graduating from Berwick High School in 1956. Upon graduating, Frances moved to Minot, ND, where she worked in the food industry for a short time. Frances was united in marriage to William T. Duchsherer on October 15, 1959 in the Fulda Church. Together, the couple began farming north of Balfour, ND and raised their family.

Frances was a strong woman and worked alongside her husband on the farm. She drove truck, stacked hay and milked cows among many other duties. Frances was also a very caring woman and sewed her children’s clothing through their early years. She made quilts for each of her grandchildren and wedding quilts for her children. Frances enjoyed embroidering, cooking, baking, gardening flowers and playing a good game of Pinochle with family and friends whenever possible. She also enjoyed trips to the Dairy Queen to repay someone for helping her out.

Frances was a member of the Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Karlsruhe, ND, where she served as a member of the Christian Mothers and later with St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Drake.

Frances is survived by her children, Brenda (Fran) Elwood of Bismarck, ND, Cynthia Duchsherer of Mesa, AZ, Brent Duchsherer of Wisconsin, Loren (Gwyn) Duchsherer of Balfour, ND and LaRae (Brad) Kostenko of Butte, ND; 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; sisters, Angeline Keller and Barbara (Ted) Jaeger.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, William T. Duchsherer; daughter, Pamela Kay Duchsherer; parents, Fabian and Magdalene Black; sisters, Rosella, Irene and Marie; brother, Fabian “Sonny” Jr.

Arrangements are pending with the Nelson Funeral Home of Drake, ND.
