Esther Mehl, 92, Drake, ND died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2023, at a Rugby hospital. Services will be Saturday, Dec. 30, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Drake with visitation one hour prior to service. Burial will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Drake, ND.

Esther was born January 1, 1931, in Kief at the home of her parents Fred and Martha (Fenner) Hoffer. She grew up and attended a country school near McClusky. She married Albert Mehl on July 17, 1949, in McClusky. They moved to Drake and were blessed with four children, Grace, Sharleen, Connie, and Fred. Esther worked as a clerk at the Farmers Store, a waitress at the Drake Cafe, and cleaning at the Drake Clinic. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and women’s Church Circle. Her hobbies included ceramics, embroidering, quilting, card games, and tending to her flowers. Esther and her companion of 12 years Delmer Hanenberg enjoyed their time together traveling, fishing, and camping.

Esther is survived by her children, Grace (Melvin) Arndt, Sharleen (Mike) Vannatta, Connie Mehl, daughter-in-law, Kathy Mehl; brother, Clarence (Mae) Hoffer; 8 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Albert; son, Fred; brother, Chester Hoffer; companion, Delmer Hanenberg. Arrangements with Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey, ND.
