Myron Rodney Anderson, 88, Minot, formerly of Tioga and Williston, entered eternal rest on Thursday, November 9, 2023 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Myron was born April 17, 1935 at Hofflund, ND the son of Manley and Petra (Granly) Anderson. His father passed away shortly after his birth, so he was raised and educated in the Tioga and Williston area before moving to Washington with his family. He graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in 1954 in Spokane, Washington. Myron honorably served with the ND Army National Guard unit from 1954 until 1960.
Myron was united in marriage to Marion Bottila on June 14, 1958 at her parents’ farm near McGregor, MN. They made their home in Williston, Denver and then returned to Williston for several years. They moved to Minot in 1969, where he was employed by Butler Machinery and then for various over the road long haul trucking companies, often driving from the east coast to west coast. The last company he worked for locally was Harstad Trucking. He retired in 2013.
Myron and Marion were charter members of Bethel Free Lutheran in Minot. He was a Golden member of the Sons of Norway, where he served as past president for two years, the Dakota Finnish Society and served on the Scandinavian Heritage Association, assisting with the development of the Scandinavian Heritage Park. He retired from that board in 2018. He enjoyed playing the guitar and electric bass for local bands, including the Don Dahlien Orchestra, Bill Merck Orchestra and the Light at the River Band. His biggest enjoyment in music was playing with other family members.
His hobbies and interests included traveling to England, the Dominican Republic, Norway in 2006 and most recently with his favorite grandson, Austin to Hawaii. He also loved spending time doing yardwork and restoring his birthplace home in Tioga that was built in 1895.
His loving family includes, wife of 65 years, Marion; children, Carla Phillips, Minneapolis, MN, Nina Phillips, Minot and Nathan Anderson, Minot; 5 grandchildren to include: Kelsie (Michael) Richardson, Austin Phillips, Katelyn Rose Phillips, Josie (Kyle) Rolfsrud and Jessie Anderson; sister-in-law, Shirley Anderson of Bismarck, ND; He was referred to Uncle Myron by many nieces, nephews.
Myron was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Donald (Barbara), Raymond, Alfred (Alice), and Charles (Myra), son in law, Carl Phillips, nephew, David Anderson and great nephew, Cody Anderson.
Funeral Service: Saturday, November 18, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. in Bethel Free Lutheran Church, Minot.
Graveside Service: Saturday at 2:45pm in Beaver Creek Lutheran Cemetery, rural Tioga, ND
Visitation: Friday, November 17th from 4:00-6:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the Bethel Free Lutheran Church, Scandinavian Heritage Association, Sons of Norway or Dakota Finnish Society.
