Andrew Bakke, 90, Minot, ND, passed away Sunday, November 26, 2023, at a Minot hospital.

Andrew Bakke was born October 31, 1933, the son of John and Agnes (Opperud) Bakke, near Ambrose, ND. He was raised and educated in Ambrose. He attended Ambrose High School and graduated in 1949 at 15 years old.

After high school he worked for numerous farmers in the area along with working at a Chevy garage in Crosby, and also the creamery in Crosby.

Andrew was drafted in the United States Army in 1955. He proudly served his country during the Korean War. After returning to the states from Korea he remained in the reserves until his honorable discharge in 1962.

After returning from his duty overseas he attended Welding and Diesel Mechanic schooling in Nashville. He returned to North Dakota and helped in the building of the grain elevator in Crosby.

Andrew married Shirley Ralph in Crosby, ND. They made their home in Lignite where they raised their family. Andrew began working for TXL building the gas plant in Lignite. He then transitioned into working for Texaco. He remained with Texaco for 32 years before retiring in 1992.

Shirley passed away in 1975.

Andrew married Georgetta Bakke in 1985. She passed away in 2020.

He enjoyed ice fishing, gardening, was a master carpenter and welder. Andrew was an avid Harley rider and was still riding up until this year. His true passion was wood working and would spend many hours in his shop perfecting his projects. He also had a great knack for being able to fix and modify just about anything that people would bring him to fix.

His loving family includes: sons, Mark (Sandy) Bakke, Terry Bakke, Neil (Amy) Bakke; grandchildren, Emma (Ethan Liebe) Bakke, Gretta Bakke, Mia Bakke; stepchildren, Tom (Deb) Bakke, Steve (Debbie) Bakke, Kristie (Padu) Krishnan; step grandchildren, Laura Bakke, Ryan (Sarah) Bakke, Tyler (Lindsay) Bakke, Anne (Tom) O’Malley, Courtney Krishnan, Matthew Krishnan; and several step great grandchildren, along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; wives Shirley and Georgetta, son Derk Bakke, brothers; Leonard Opperud, John Bakke, Edward Bakke, George Bakke, Elmer Bakke, Edwin Bakke, Alton Bakke, sisters; Martha Anderson and Adeline Green.

Celebration of Life: Saturday, December 2, 2023, at 1 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Chapel, Minot.

Interment: Bethany Lutheran Cemetery, Lignite, ND. At a later date.

Visitation: One hour before the service.

Memorials: are preferred to the Bethany Lutheran Cemetery, Lignite or a charity of donor’s choice.
