Alvis Martinson passed away Friday, November 17, 2023 at Trinity Health.

Alvis was born May 25, 1949, the son of Iver and Lucyle (Hidde) Martinson in Kenmare, North Dakota. He graduated from Kenmare High School in 1967. He furthered his education by attending Minot State University where he studied music education and business, graduating in 1973. While in college, he drove a tour bus for MSU. He moved to Carpio in 1976.

Alvis student taught in Columbus. His first teaching job was in Lansford. Later he taught at Donnybrook and was the principal until the school closed. He then taught First Aid and CPR at Minot State for 21 years.

He was very active in his church where he helped in various roles. At different times he was the church organist, council president, involved in choir, and he was a member of the Four Rocks and a Pebble singing group. Outside of church, he was active in the local community where he was on the township board, was secretary and treasurer for the local Fire Department. He was certified in CPR and First Aid and became an EMT in 1977. As part of his role with the ambulance he helped with reporting.

His loving family includes: Nephews, Mitch (Sheila) Tibbs, Mark Tibbs; niece, Lori (Pat) LaForge and their children, Morgan and Adam LaForge; his good friend, Peter Thorp; along with his cousins.

Alvis was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Charles William Tibbs; stepsister, Connie Parker; granddaughter, Shanna Tibbs; grandmother, Emma Baker; uncle, Ernie Hidde; and cousins

Visitation: Tuesday, November 28, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Carpio Lutheran Church, Carpio, ND.

Funeral: Tuesday, November 28, 2023, 1:00 p.m. at Carpio Lutheran Church, Carpio, ND.

Burial: St. John’s Cemetery, rural Carpio, ND.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. John’s Cemetery, Carpio, Carpio Lutheran Church, or Carpio Fire Department
