Forest River

Roger (Leroy) Allen Schultz, 77, of Forest River, ND and formerly of Towner, ND, passed away Sunday, October 15, 2023 in Larimore, ND.

Roger was born November 9, 1945 to Arnold and Ida (Opstedahl) in Bottineau, ND. Roger was raised in rural Willow City by his grandparents and uncles after the sudden passing of his mother. He graduated from Bottineau High School in 1963. He was drafted into the United States Army November 10, 1965, he served in Vietnam. He was discharged in November of 1967. Roger was united in marriage to Elaine Fery, July 26, 1967 at Fort Bragg, SC. The couple eventually made their home in Towner, ND where they raised their five children. They were later divorced.

Roger married Angeline (Angie\Hendrickson) Lizakowski in Larimore, ND on September 15, 2000. The couple made their home in Forest River, ND.

Roger worked many jobs over the years including Winger Cheese, Inc. in Towner and serving as the Towner Chief of Police for two years. Roger found his calling as a long haul truck driver. He worked for many different companies over the years and saw millions of miles of highway from one coast to the other. Each of his children got their special time with Dad when they were allowed to ride along during the summer. A family vacation was even taken cross country to Disneyland courtesy of Roger’s 18-wheeler! Roger retired (reluctantly) in the fall of 2021.

Roger enjoyed hunting, NASCAR, traveling with Angie, classic cars and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Roger is survived by his wife of 23 years, Angie; children: Lynn (Malcolm) Stone, Leon, Jason (Jamie) and Austin Schultz all of Towner, ND. Stepsons: Ryan (Jiao) Lizakowski, Watertown, MN and Tim Lizakowski of Springfield, MO. Daughter-in Law – Corinna Schultz, Enderlin, ND. Grandchildren: Taylor (Erin) Stone of River Falls, WI; Jordan Stone, Towner, ND and Jesse Schultz, Enderlin, ND. Four step-grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Sisters: Irene Flory, Minot and Carol (Don) Stillings of Mandan, ND.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, son – Bryan Schultz; sister – Ellen Schultz; brothers-in-law: Dale Flory and Warren Stebleton.

It was Roger’s wish that no funeral be held, but instead; have a gathering of family and friends in his honor. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held at the American Legion Hall in Forest River, ND on October 28, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM with internment at the family plot in Omemee, ND on Nov 10, 2023 at 2pm.
